Providing these comments are based on KNOWING the child has made poor choices, I would tend to agree more than disagree. Still, it is OUR JOB [parents AND teachers] to direct children in the RIGHT choices! Today, it would seem as though MANY adults don't really care and simply let kids [of pretty much any age] make their OWN..... ON their own!
I have little good to say about public schools anymore - it's not ALWAYS the teacher him or herself, but oftentimes, it IS! I'm sorry, but I have had experience with FOUR children through high school years, as well as my OWN and that of my 3 siblings!!! TEACHERS are simply not the same as they use to be!
In all those years, and, in SEVERAL different schools I might add, I can count the truly great teachers on both hands. And should I choose to compare to THE BEST [my 1st grade teacher] only 2-3 MAX have come close!
A teacher is not MADE, for the most part. A teacher should be a TEACHER at HEART! He or she should LOVE children and watching them learn and HELPING them do so when they struggle. It takes a VERY rare person, in my opinion, to truly do the job right. Now this is NOT to say that there aren't contributing factors as to why the "good" teachers are not, or perhaps, CAN not be GREAT! That's a deeper level of the problem I'd love to explore also! I'm all about finding solutions. People just don't seem to care about it beyond the complaining! :(
I also know there are ample apathetic adults - HAH! I love alliteration.... :) Parents DO have to do their part - obviously. But without the cooperation of the schools [specifically, the teachers, guidance counselor, and principal] parents are left waffling without worthwhile recourse! Sadly, it is these parents who need to SPEAK UP!
I would LOVE to organize a parents' group to discuss "the issues" - but..... and thus I, too, am part of the problem..... :( THIS saddens me. And keep in mind, the SINGLE parent may often come at the problem from one extreme or the other. :( SUPPORT is what is truly needed - someone, preferably who would HONESTLY and impartially advocate for BOTH sides. Or should I say ALL THREE SIDES!
