Dear Friends,
It's not exactly clear to me but I assume this space is for comments. I want to say that technology will be our undoing. Children need relationships. The most important relationship is with their mother. Abraham Lincoln is quoted, "All I am or ever hope to be I owe to my angel mother." Indeed, for an infant or small child, a mother and father, too, is God. Children need MOTHERING! and many are not getting it. Children need fathers. And, many do not have one. Tender mothers who are strong ; and strong fathers who are tender). Mothers nurture and fathers provide for and protect. Children need parents (and grandparents like Lois and Eunice who apparently raised Timothy without a father) who guide and protect them and teach them how to live. They need Jesus. Children do not need phones. Technology should be used selectively.
The best example I know today is the Amish. We all can learn a lot from the Amish. And, I am so sorry to add I have been told by the husband of a dear Amish woman who is the age of my youngest daughters and is expecting her 7th child that the Amish are just behind us (non-Amish or Englisher).
We have been TV free since 1986. I have heard TV referred to as the devil box. TV has become repellent. This is the ungodly Age of Narcissism.
Children are innocent and so precious. Technology is an assault on their sensibilities. Why do caring and concerned adults permit this? There are consequences and we are reaping what we sow. As Dr. Stanley says, the consequences that are longer and more than we sow.
I prefer to focus on that which is good because what you focus on is what you get. BUT, ignoring ugly truths is not good either. Parents, by their decisions, decide what their children will learn -- children are ignorant and defenseless. For the first six years of life parents almost exclusively determine a child's environment of which the parents are a part.
I think we have to ask ourselves if we are following God's plan in raising our children on technology instead of in our arms and by our side?
God's plan is very simple, really. It's people (and Satan) who make things complicated and confusing. Let's talk and sing to our children. Lets READ to our children from before birth. Children who are read benefit all their lives. Let's take walks and make cookies and visit elderly neighbors with those cookies and ENGAGE in conversation. Let's take our children to church with us providing them with a Christian community. Let's be sure to include them whenever we can when helping others whenever we can while remembering that our family is our first mission. Technology is far more disconnecting that connecting. Don't let Satan enter your home through technology. Do you really want Satan in your home? Only goodness, truth and beauty should be in a child's home. Thank you for your time.
The Lord be with you, Koko
