My son HATES to read—what do I do?

Posted on 10/8/2018 by Greg Yoder

I was THAT kid. My parents could hardly FORCE me to read. I hated it. But I loved LISTENING to stories. I could sit and listen to my mom, or dad, or teacher read forever. I discovered that I’m an oral learner. According to the Orality Network, I’m part of the 80% of the world’s population who prefers to listen to a good story, not read it. Your son or daughter may be like me. And it doesn’t mean we shouldn’t learn to read. We need to be literate. It means that when it comes to recreational reading, let them listen as they read along. Audiobooks are available everywhere, and YouVersion has audio Bibles. Kids are unique. Not all of them are wired to sit and read.

Suggested Reading: Psalm 139:14
